Hering was a medical doctor in Germany. He was instructed to investigate homeopathy. In this investigating, he became a believer in homeopathy versus an opponent, so he is noted as being the doctor who brought homeopathy to America in the 1800s. He is noted as the doctor who first brought the observations of cure to a written law.
Hering’s Law of Cure can be simply stated as “All cure starts from within out, from the head down and in reverse order as the symptoms have appeared.”
The definition of Hering’s Law of Cure is as follows:
- Heal from top to bottom: A symptom or a set of symptoms may slide down. What appeared on the head may go to the chest, then the abdomen, then the legs before going away entirely. Must be mentally prepared and strong in order to allow the body to heal and not doubt the body’s ability to heal itself.
- Heal from within to outward: This means we must allow the body to cleanse. In order for the body to eliminate toxins it must be allowed to do so by not suppressing any kind of discharge. Most over-the-counter medications and prescriptions do suppress discharges. The problem may leave the innards of the body and surface on the skin, nails, hair, and/or mucous membranes before disappearing. This is not good as these toxins can go deeper into the body and create other weaknesses. The body must be allowed to cleanse itself in whatever manner it needs to without interruption by synthetic suppressive substances. If the patient has an ulcer in the abdomen, during the treatment if the patient suddenly develops a profuse discharge of any of the mucous membranes, or develops a scary rash, then the direction is towards a cure. In such a case the subsequent acute manifestation should not be disturbed and must be allowed to take its course.
- Heal in reverse order as the symptoms have appeared or been suppressed: The present symptom may be replaced by what has taken place prior to it, moving backwards the way it developed. For example, a kidney failure patient may go back to his cardiac manifestation, then the severe abdominal complaints he may have suffered earlier may resurface. Then the eczema or psoriasis that was suppressed earlier may recur which when treated holistically, or by continuing the present method of treatment will cure the patient.
- Heal from the more important organ to less important organ: As stated above the affected kidney may heal with the disease going to the heart, then the liver, the abdomen, then the skin before affecting a cure. A mental symptom like anxiety may be relieved as the disease takes hold of a physical organ and then moving on from the more vital organ to the less important one.
Constantine Hering was born on January 1, 1800, in Oschatz, Germany. This very notable birthday could certainly be considered the foretelling sign of a man destined to be of great contribution to the new century. He is respectfully considered to be one of the founders of homeopathy in America.
While attending Leipzig University, in Germany, Hering was the student assistant of a doctor who had been asked to write a book to disprove the legitimacy of homeopathy. However, the doctor’s busy schedule forced him to refer the project to his assistant, who eagerly accepted the assignment. Hering ardently studied the writings and teachings of Samuel Hahnemann, known as the “founder” of homeopathy; and expanded his research by conducting experiments and repeated provings.
Hering had a dramatic change of heart when he received successful homeopathic treatment for a wound that had become inflamed and seriously infected. After this experience, he decided to quit his job and leave the University.
Hering went on to become highly influential in the expansion of homeopathic studies; and he is known for making many great contributions, including observations of the healing process, known as “Hering’s Law of Cure”.
